PROJECT TO RECLASSIFY A ONE-FAMILY RESIDENTIAL BUILDING IN VAREZE, INCREASE ITS LIVING SPACE AND CHANGE THE LAYOUT MAKING IT A TWO-FAMILIES HOUSE

The Ennori house was built in 1927 – 1932 on the basis of a smaller dwelling erected a century earlier. The house sits on the outskirts of the city of Vareze, on a land plot located between the Corso Europe transport highway and a natural slope which just in this area sharply goes down to a lake. If you pass by via Rovani along a small group of houses of a simple design, you will suddenly come across the Ennori house; a building seeming small at first sight, differing by its harmonious proportions and effective finishing. You will be surprised still more when, having passed further along the street, you will find a linear vista opening down to the lake. The slope goes down towards the wood and reaches the lake. This is the real “face” of the house; the majestic façade seems to be conversing with the lake and the adjoining territory. Our design is based on communication with the surrounding nature bringing out the esthetic advantages of the house. The project assumes creation of two apartments with separate entrances: one on the ground and semibasement levels, and the other – on the first and attic floors. To create separate entrances the former loggia / balcony was replaced by an external stairway leading to the upper floor. Besides, there had been a greenhouse attached to the east side of the house, having reached a deplorable state. We managed to keep its area, replacing the old structure with a new one. The project includes creation of two new zones which will be built with the use of materials and technologies different from those employed in the historical part of the building where we will try to restore the already existing infrastructures. The new elements will be created from glass, steel and copper and will become a kind of an unostentatious transparent accent fitting well into the context and scale framework of the environment.
